Our Department recently purchased four in-car camera systems from you.
We could not afford the cameras out of our budget due to budget restraints.
After seeing an advertisement in a magazine from your Company, I approached
my Chief and Captain about asking for donations from the community.
We all agreed it was worth a shot, so I developed a letter explaining
the need for cameras in our patrol vehicles, and sent them out to local
businesses. The response we received was overwhelming. We only thought
we would receive enough donation money to purchase one camera, but with
the help of numerous donations from local business, we were able to purchase
four camera systems, with a fifth one in the works.
Not only are these cameras great
for traffic enforcement, it is a valuable investigation tool for crime
scenes. These cameras come off your dash in seconds, and can be used to
video tape a crime scene. Instead of all still pictures, you can have
a video tape of the scene, which can be very useful in court. Also, our
conviction rate for driving while intoxicated has dramatically increased.
I enjoy seeing the look on a defense attorney’s face when he learns
that his clients stop is on video.
Another attribute to the in-car
video cameras is our citizen complaints against Officers has dropped to
virtually zero. On the few complaints that we have received against
our Officers, once it is learned that there is a recording of the incident,
we never hear another word about the complaint.
In closing, I would like to take a moment to commend Martel Electronics
on their friendly and well trained staff. They helped me purchase the
ideal equipment to fit our needs, at a very reasonable price. We are already
planning on purchasing more equipment from Martel. Keep up the good work
guys.
