Here is how to decode the Dictaphone part number. If the part number ends in a zero (example 2750) you will only receive the base unit. If the part number ends in a 1 (example 2751) then it is the dictation model and you will receive the base unit and the microphone. I have had such a delightful experience with the two ME91 Dual system
Panasonic recording systems that I recently purchased that I wanted to let you know about my experience and hope it can be encouraging to other transcriptionists.

I have been self employed for approximately ten years and was fortunate
enough to purchase a used Dictaphone call-in system about seven years ago. I
was pleased at the time because I was in need of a tape system versus a
digital system due to the fact that I had to distribute work to other typists
and the cost difference would not allow me to acquire an inadequate
(something that wouldn't necessarily meet my needs) type of system. Over the
period of time I have owned the Dictaphone system, I have had what I feel are
minor repair problems but still have been faced with the call-in system being
completely down when a mechanical part had to be ordered, etc. This created
a costly situation in many respects - the repair and service call itself,
along with the lost transcription time and rising frustration levels for
everyone involved. In all, my service from Dictaphone was handled well, but
I began to feel that there had to be a better way out there for small
business owners and contract transcriptionists to be able to affordably
manage working from home.

The system offered by Martel exceeds anything I ever expected to find. The
cost was virtually nothing compared to the quote given to me to replace my
old system (roughly $6,000 to get what I needed). The recording is extremely
clear and the machines are fully functional yet very, very easy to operate.
From the time I called to inquire about the system, through the delivery, and
initial set-up questions I have received excellent support from your company
and have a great deal of confidence in knowing that I can recommend other

New technology is always of interest to a transcriptionist or transcription service, especially when it means an individual has an opportunity to start their own service. I've spoken with a representative from Martel and quite frankly I was very impressed with what I found out.

Martel is a small company which has been in business since the 1950s. They are a technology based company and have developed a call-in system which is affordable, but more importantly the doctors will not be hindered or made to learn new systems.

The system is just under $500 ($495 no tax if not in Calif) and all the transcriptionist needs is this system, a
micro cassette recorder/transcriber, a computer and a dedicated phone line and ... viola ... you have your call-in system.

Many physicians (especially local family practice physicians) prefer not to use the larger services which require you learn a call-in system, the codes, and how the system functions. This system allows physicians to call in themselves to your system or use their hand-held recorders and then send it all at once to your call-in system with the purchase of a device to hook to the recorder which is a $65.00 one time fee to the physician (again, this is not necessary if they wish to call the dictation in on the phone, only if they wish to use their hand-held recorders).

I was given the opportunity to test the quality of the recorded messages and even though we were transmitting from Kentucky to California long distance into their call-in system, and played back through their transcriber device to me long distance - the quality was much better than a tape I picked up and played in my transcriber. I was amazed.

The system is a four-hour tape system and additional modules (usually accommodating two to three doctors) are at a discount each. This means the system is not only affordable, but can grow to accommodate more accounts.

The system comes with a one year warranty. However, an extended service warranty may be purchased for $90/year and if anything goes wrong they will overnight you a new system, therefore, your possibility of down time is virtually nonexistant.
